Identifying IMAGE IDs

To order any IMAGE/MGC clone you will require the IMAGE Id

How do I find the IMAGE ID ?

IMAGE Ids are 5 to 7 digit numbers e.g. Jak2 (Homo sapiens): 5556026

If you do not know the IMAGE Id, we suggest that you look at the NCBI database in the first instance:

Taking the example of human Jak2. Select the nucleotide search, and type in 'Jak2 IMAGE'. Under 'top organisms' filter for Homo sapiens.

SampleNCBISearch

The resulting entry is:-

BC039695 Homo sapiens Janus kinase 2 (a protein tyrosine kinase), mRNA (cDNA clone MGC:46028 IMAGE:5556026), complete cds.

To order you must use the IMAGE ID number.

You may of course want to search using accession number or simply gene name. If an IMAGE ID number is not associated with the nucleotide sequence then it is not from the IMAGE collection and therefore is not available to purchase from Source BioScience LifeSciences.

Mammalian Gene Collection clones.

MGC clones must be ordered using the IMAGE ID and not using the MGC ID.

e.g. in the case of human Jak2
BC039695 Homo sapiens Janus kinase 2 (a protein tyrosine kinase), mRNA (cDNA clone MGC:46028 IMAGE:5556026), complete cds.

So for MGC:46028 the IMAGE ID is 5556026

Other useful websites:

  • MGC

The MGC website is very user-friendly, allowing a search on gene symbol or keyword, but PLEASE NOTE that it does not reference the entire IMAGE collection

    http://mgc.nci.nih.gov

  • IMAGE

The IMAGE website does contain the whole IMAGE collection including unusual polymorphisms and splice variants. However, it does not allow a gene symbol or gene keyword search which makes it more difficult to use.
