Source BioScience LifeSciences Gene Sets
Introduction
Source BioScience LifeSciences has made sets of genes from
the IMAGE and MGC collections of clones and are now distributing
these sets to customers to enhance their projects in a systematic
manner. Sets are available for human, mouse and rat and are great
value for money.
The I.M.A.G.E. consortium compose high quality,
arrayed cDNA libraries and make them available to the community.
Each clone has been given a unique I.M.A.G.E. ID to facilitate
reference. The sequence, mapping and expression data has been
placed in the public domain. These clones are available free of any
royalties and are available to anyone accepting the "good faith
agreement". See Lennon et al. The Mammalian Gene
Collection (MGC) is an NIH initiative to generate full-length
cDNA resources. Click here for more
information.
How the sets were made
Identification of the clones was performed using a bioinformatic
procedure. Gene sets were compiled by arraying clones from MGC and
IMAGE. The schematic for the procedure is the following:
- Identify a gene name list from a text search of the gene
nomenclature committee database
- Search all available IMAGE and MGC clones for gene name list
using GenomeCube®
- Select using the priority: MGC, IMAGE 7 digit, IMAGE 8
digit
- Arrayed the selected clones
- Gene sets are sold at whole plate prices even if only a part
plate is used.
The content of the sets is available here:

Important Information
- Discovered gene names might be only associated with the search
term and not necessarily functionally related (Eg a phosphatase
associated gene).
- Not all gene names in all human, mouse and rat have an MGC or
IMAGE clone
- The gene sets are not sequence verified and probably contain as
many errors as are found normally in the IMAGE library.
- There is no guarantee that the set is a complete list
