Library Types
RNAi/miRNA clones
RNA interference (RNAi) is a process of post-transcriptional
gene silencing by which double stranded RNA (dsRNA), when
introduced into a cell, causes sequence-specific degradation of
homogolous mRNA sequences.
Micro RNA is an endogenous, single-stranded RNA, typically
21-23 base pairs long, that is thought to be involved in gene
regulation (especially inhibition of protein expression).
Genomic
clones
Genomic clones are large (40-100kbp) sections of DNA typically
harboured in fosmid, cosmid or BAC vectors. All resources have been
end, or fully sequenced.
ORF clones
Open Reading Frame (ORF) clones contain the entire coding
sequences for genes. Vectors can be used for either direct
expression or recombined into an expression construct, depending on
which library is chosen.
cDNA/EST
clones
Expressed Sequence Tag, is a segment of a cDNA clone that has
been sequenced. EST Clones are cDNA clones that have been sequenced
once (single pass, non-edited), from one or both ends of the DNA
insert, using universal primers which are complementary to the
vector and close to the multiple cloning site.
