Source BioScience has lunch with the Irish Prime Minister
On the 23rd September, Barry Murphy, the sequencing team leader
in our Dublin lab, was invited to lunch by the Institute of
Directors Ireland and as part of this, got to meet the Irish Prime
Minister. Here's an account of the day in Barry's words:
The lunch was organised by the Institute of Directors Ireland
and I was a guest of the Dublin Business Innovation Centre (BIC).
The BIC are key members of the board of our current residence, The
Guinness Enterprise Centre (GEC) and provide both start up capital
and ongoing funding for viable business propositions in the Irish
market.
During the lunch we were addressed by An Taoiseach (Prime
Minister) Enda Kenny who outlined the importance of the Life
Science sector in returning Ireland to the position it held before
the economic downturn as a leading small country in the fields of
science, technology and finance. As he said "Ireland wants to
return to number 1 and, as in the political arena, number 1 is the
only thing that counts". The GEC are currently engaged in a policy
of using our facility as both a blueprint and shining example of
how "wet lab" life science facilities can be integrated into the
GEC which up until now have concentrated on technology based
business ventures. The setting up of this "Life Science hub" will
hopefully lead to increased communications within the life science
sector in Ireland which should lead to greater market penetration
and business opportunities. These opportunities will lead to Source
BioScience becoming the number 1 sequencing and life science
provider in Ireland.
It was a great opportunity for Source BioScience to be present
in the same space as companies such as Deloitte, Merrill Lynch,
PriceWaterhouse Cooper and the Dublin Chamber of Commerce amongst
others (full list available).
